Who we’re looking for:

The Director of Government Affairs serves as the organization’s primary liaison to federal, state, and local government entities. This role shapes and executes the company’s public policy agenda, cultivates relationships with elected officials and regulatory agencies, and identifies legislative opportunities and risks. With a strategic focus, the Director will ensure that policy efforts align with the organization’s mission, values, and growth objectives.

Strategic Policy Development:

  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies that advance organizational priorities.
  • Monitor, analyze, and respond to legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, legislative staff, regulatory bodies, and key community stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization at public hearings, legislative briefings, and advocacy coalitions.
  • Legislative Tracking & Analysis:
  • Lead internal legislative review processes and produce timely policy reports and impact assessments.
  • Coordinate responses to proposed legislation and regulatory changes.
  • Provide testimony in the company’s best interest.

Internal Collaboration:

  • Advise senior leadership on government relations strategies and emerging policy trends.
  • Align cross-functional teams around advocacy goals; collaborate with communications and legal departments for unified messaging.
  • Coordinate grasstop/grassroots activities.

External Representation:

  • Serve as spokesperson for public policy matters.
  • Manage participation in industry associations, PACs, and lobbying efforts.

Qualifications or Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Communications, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in government relations, public affairs, or legislative policy—preferably within a regulated industry or nonprofit sector.
  • Deep understanding of legislative and regulatory processes at all levels of government.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic policy initiatives and lead cross-sector partnerships.
  • Proven track record of influencing legislative outcomes and building bipartisan relationships.
  • Strong ethical standards and sound judgment in confidential matters.
