Employee Health and Safety Manager Job Responsibilities:

The Employee Health and Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all environmental, health, and safety programs within a specified region. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, promotes a strong safety culture, and minimizes risks associated with high-hazard operations. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in emergency incident command, hazardous materials management, confined space operations, and industrial safety.

Employee Health and Safety Manager Job Duties:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs, policies, and procedures specifically tailored for emergency response, hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling, industrial cleaning, and other industrial services.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments for branches, identifying potential hazards and implementing effective control measures.
  • Develop and manage site-specific safety plans.
  • Provide expert EHS oversight and support during emergency response incidents.
  • Serve as an incident safety officer to incident commanders, ensuring personnel safety during response operations.
  • Develop and conduct emergency response drills and exercises to test preparedness and effectiveness of response plans.
  • Lead investigations for all EHS-related incidents, near misses, and accidents within industrial services and emergency response, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Support EHS training programs for all personnel involved in emergency response and industrial services, including HAZWOPER, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, fall protection, respiratory protection, and other related trainings.
  • Ensure all employees within the region receive required initial and refresher EHS training.
  • Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections of equipment, facilities, and work practices to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and submit all required EHS reports.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental health and safety role.
  • Experience working regionally with responsibility over multiple branches.
  • OSHA 30-Hour, HAZWOPER 40-hour, Confined Space Entry, and Incident Command System training preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
  • Experience partnering with cross functional teams.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing at times.
  • The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to frequently climb stairs and ladders.
  • May occasionally deal with heights.
  • Ability to wear Personal Equipment, including Respiratory Protection.
  • Consists of both office setting and physical jobsite.
  • Able to work in confined spaces when needed
