The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLA) in the Environmental Management Service (EMS). The incumbent is a Laborer within the Recycling Section.
This position is responsible for handling all confidential and sensitive materials for shredding, operates equipment related to the destruction, disposing and packaging of such materials and the recycling of various types of materials. This position requires a security clearance due to the sensitive nature of materials. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Position Description Title/PD#: Laborer/PD12029A Physical Requirements: Work consistently requires significant heavy physical effort in order to lift, move, push and pull recycling carts, bins, pallet jacks, dollies, hand trucks, equipment and supplies. The worker frequently lifts and carries objects weighing 80 to 100 pounds. The work involves frequent walking, bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching. Working Conditions: Incumbent usually will be required to perform his/her duties indoors and outdoors. Incumbent will be exposed to the weather and inclement weather while working on the grounds. Incumbent will be exposed to dirt and dust while performing his/her duties. Incumbent will also assist with the movement of equipment and supplies, which are adjunct to the task. Incumbent must observe prescribed safety regulations and careful handling of tools, materials, etc. to prevent injury to self and others.
