Job Description

Performs phlebotomy (the practice of entering a vein to draw blood) services on inpatients and outpatients, as requested by physicians, in support of the hospital's mission of patient care. Minimum qualifications include completion of a phlebotomy education program or an allied health education program with at least 50 successful unaided venipunctures. Preferred qualifications include certification by AMT, NCA, or ASCP, or completion of accredited phlebotomy programs with 100 successful unaided blood collections. Experience in hospital or clinic phlebotomy is required. Core duties include timely blood collection following laboratory guidelines, operating laboratory equipment, restocking supplies, demonstrating knowledge of patient care requirements, prioritizing workload for optimal patient care, maintaining effective communication with staff and patients, performing clerical duties, completing computer entries accurately, assisting hospital personnel with lab results, participating in educational and training activities, and adhering to physical demands and working environment requirements. The position involves working 6a-6:30p with rotating weekends and holidays, scheduled for 36 hours weekly, day shift, non-exempt status.
