Hearing Officer Team Lead | Mississippi Division of Medicaid Location: 25 - HINDS COUNTY, MS Salary Range: $56,345.82 - $76,912.05 Annually Job Number: 9568-0665-20250604hi Division: Medicaid Division Opening Date: 06/04/2025 Application Deadline: 06/18/2025 at 11:59 PM Central Time (US & Canada) Agency Minimum Salary: $56,345.82 Agency Maximum Salary: $76,912.05 About the Agency The Mississippi Division of Medicaid provides access to quality health coverage for vulnerable Mississippians, including children, low-income families, pregnant women, the aged, and disabled populations. The Office of Appeals manages petitions from the Mississippi Coordinated Access Network (MississippiCAN), handling approximately 800 appeals annually, with ongoing cases dating back to 2017. Currently, three external hearing officers are assigned to MississippiCAN appeals. Position Overview The Hearing Officer Team Lead oversees and coordinates quasi-judicial functions related to hearings and appeals. Responsibilities include advising agency officials on applying state laws to factual situations, conducting extensive legal research, developing policies and procedures, reviewing lower-level hearing decisions, and making recommendations to the Executive Director. Employee supervision may involve hiring recommendations, training, work planning, performance reviews, coaching, and disciplinary actions. Qualifications Required: Analytical skills, legal writing and research skills, effective communication and conflict resolution skills, ability to meet statutory deadlines, and handling confidential information. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of experience in the relevant field, or paralegal/attorney/appeals experience. Experience handling high caseloads, familiarity with medical records and legal documentation.
